PERMITS
Building Permits are required for most all building projects, including new construction, additions, structural changes, decks, finished basements, and pools, sheds 120 or more square feet in area, demolition, roofing, siding, and window replacements. Contractors must have a current state license on file with the city or be licensed with the City. Click below for more information.

Commercial Uses:
Zoning Permits are required for all sheds and structures less than 120 square feet in area, fences, and driveways. Contractors must have a current state license on file with the city. A $35 fee is charged for all zoning permits. Click below for more information.
Demolition Permits are required whenever an existing residential home, detached garage, commercial building, or commercial accessory building are to be removed. Demolition fees for residential demolition is $40 and for commercial demolition $70. Click below for more information.
Plumbing Permits are required for all changes to plumbing, including installation or replacement of a water softener, water heater, and back flow preventer for a lawn irrigation system. For water heater replacements, a fresh air intake must be installed if not existing. Plumbers must have a current state license and bond on file with the city and

Sewer Permits are required for all work conducted to repair or install a new or existing sewer service line. All contractors must have a current state license and bond on file with the city and
are also required to submit their certificate of insurance with the City listed as the holder. Click below for more information.
Mechanical Permits are required for most HVAC work, including the installation or replacement of a furnace, air conditioner, fireplace, and wood stove or HRV unit. For furnace replacement, a fresh air intake must be installed if not existing. Click below for more information.
Electrical Permits are required for all electrical wiring. Applicants may use our permit application or the State Request for Electrical Inspection form. Permit Applications can be obtained over the counter at City Hall for $1.50 or by mail from the State Board of Electricity. All permit fees depend on the work being done.
